The Manaslu region

A quieter way into the high Himalaya.

A considered introduction to the valleys, communities, and mountain rhythm that shape every Manaslu Trekking journey.

Manaslu is the Himalaya at a more human scale: a long valley shaped by the Budi Gandaki, villages connected by stone paths and suspension bridges, and a mountain that gradually becomes a constant presence. The region begins in warm foothills where terraced fields, waterfalls, and forest hold the sound of the river. Day by day, the trail moves into a quieter world of pine, juniper, prayer walls, and wide glacial basins beneath the eighth-highest mountain on earth.

This is not a trek built around a single summit photograph. It is a journey through changing landscapes and living cultures. Gurung communities welcome walkers in the lower valleys; farther north, the Nubri region carries a distinct Tibetan-influenced character expressed in monasteries, chortens, seasonal farming, and a deep relationship with the mountains. A pause for tea in Lho, an acclimatisation walk from Samagaun, or the early light on a mani wall can be as memorable as the high pass itself.

Manaslu Trekking is locally led because local knowledge is not an added extra here—it is the foundation of a safe, meaningful journey. Our guides understand the pace of the trail, the people who run the lodges, and the practical decisions that mountain weather requires. We work with small groups so that each guest receives attention, each day can be adjusted with care, and the experience remains respectful of the communities that make this route possible.

Altitude asks for patience. The Manaslu Circuit rises gradually from the river valley toward Samagaun, Samdo, and Larkya La at 5,106 metres. We build our journeys around sensible acclimatisation, unhurried walking, regular check-ins, and enough time to notice what is around us. The objective is never simply to reach a pass on schedule; it is to travel well, feel supported, and arrive with the energy to appreciate the landscape.

What distinguishes Manaslu is its sense of continuity. The route still feels connected to the lives of the people who live along it, rather than separated from them. Facilities become simpler as the altitude rises, but the welcome becomes more personal. Mornings may begin with a bowl of porridge in a family-run lodge; evenings can end under a bright, cold sky with the next ridge waiting beyond the window.

We invite curious, prepared walkers who value context as much as distance. Whether you choose the classic circuit, add the contemplative side trails of Tsum Valley, or shape a private base camp journey, we plan each trip with clear advice and quiet care. The result is a Himalayan trek that feels adventurous without being rushed, refined without losing its character, and deeply rooted in the place it explores.

Before you go

The details that make the journey easier.

A little practical preparation creates more space for the trail, village welcomes, and the changing light around Manaslu.

March to May and late September to November

Best time to trek

Autumn brings the clearest mountain views and settled skies after the monsoon. Spring offers warmer days, rhododendron colour in the lower valleys, and a quieter feeling on the trail. Both seasons reward early planning for permits and preferred lodges.

Layering is essential above 3,000 metres

Weather & temperature

Conditions shift quickly with altitude. Lower valleys can feel mild during the day, while mornings around Samagaun and Larkya La are often below freezing. A warm insulating layer, waterproof shell, gloves, and sun protection are essential in every season.

Simple, nourishing meals in family-run lodges

Food & drinks

Tea houses serve dal bhat, noodle soups, potatoes, rice dishes, eggs, and seasonal vegetables. Menus become simpler at higher altitude, but hot meals remain a welcome part of the rhythm. Bring a reusable bottle and use treated or boiled water throughout.

Available in places, never guaranteed

Wi-Fi & internet

Many lower-elevation lodges offer Wi-Fi for a small local charge. As the route climbs, connection becomes slower and less dependable, often relying on solar power. Download maps and important documents before leaving Kathmandu, and treat connectivity as a bonus.

From our guests

The journey, in their words.

“The team knew exactly when to slow the pace and when to let us take in the moment. It felt less like joining a trek and more like being welcomed into a place they genuinely care for.”

Amelia R.

Manaslu Circuit Trek

“Everything was thoughtfully handled, from our first briefing in Kathmandu to the decisions made around weather on the pass. The small group made the whole journey feel calm and personal.”

Daniel K.

Private Manaslu Journey

“Manaslu was extraordinary, but it was the local stories, lodge hosts, and our guide’s quiet confidence that made the experience stay with us long after the trail.”
